About Me

Design that reflects who you are.
Bridging decades of experience with timeless creativity.
I’m Laurel Becker—designer, illustrator, creative collaborator, and founder of Forest Laurel Design. With over 40 years of experience, my design journey began in a pre-digital world—hands-on, tactile, and deeply craft-driven.
From Paste-Up to Pixels
I’ve helped guide businesses through one of the most pivotal creative shifts of our time: from paste-up boards to pixels. I supported companies in transitioning from traditional design workflows to digital tools, ensuring that quality and intention were never lost along the way.
In the early days of the web, I built websites using raw HTML and CSS—long before visual builders or drag-and-drop editors were the norm. That foundation gave me a deep understanding of how design and structure work together to create intuitive, effective digital experiences.
At Fractal Design (later MetaCreations), I worked closely with users and development teams as Director of Technical Support and Customer Service. I also contributed to developing groundbreaking tools like ColorStudio and Painter—offering creative insight and user-centered guidance that helped shape the future of digital art.
Your Story, My Focus
From brand identities to print pieces to digital spaces, I help bring your story to life visually—always with the goal of creating something that feels authentic, aligned, and alive. My approach starts with listening and unfolds through collaboration. Clients often tell me they feel “seen”—that I intuitively understand their vision and translate it into something clear, beautiful, and effective.
I believe that when your visuals are true to you, your audience feels it. Authenticity builds trust. It connects. It invites the right people in.
The Creative Thread
Over the years, I’ve served as Creative Director, Senior Designer, and print buyer across industries and formats. My illustrations have been published in books and periodicals, and in 2006 I received a TABBIES Award for a cover design featured in American Banker.
My creativity also finds life beyond the screen. I contribute to theater productions as a set painter, designer, stage makeup artist, and performer. For me, theater is another canvas for storytelling—collaborative, expressive, and joyful.
A Little Extra Color
Yes, that’s me—painted as a tiger.

Many moons ago, I brought that photo to our local newspaper, hoping to place a small Halloween ad for my face-painting business. The ad cost more than I could make during the weekend run, so I passed. The next morning? That same photo was on the front page.
That moment reminds me: creativity has a way of making itself seen.
